Family Events and Student Traditions
St. Lucy School is a vibrant community, consisting of parents, Faculty and staff, grandparents, alumni families, parishioners, and friends. Many activities and events are offered throughout the year that help keep school spirit high! There are monthly activities and events for the whole family to enjoy.
The school year begins with a welcome back spirit rally and coffee, followed by special Kickoff Dinner just for parents and staff. The whole school comes out for the annual family movie night and also for our Lighting sports season welcome dinner. You may cheer for the Lightning teams at home games in the gym, bring your pet to morning assembly for the Blessing of the Pets, spend the weekend at the annual Fun Fest Carnival, play Bocce with parents, teachers, and alumni, enjoy delicious pancake breakfasts, win a pumpkin at the Halloween Spooktacular & Haunted House, join families for Community Dinners Out around town, celebrate the arts at Evening of the Arts, celebrate at the STREAM Celebration, volunteer at the Walkathon, hug Clifford the Big Red Dog at the Scholastic Book Fair, enjoy the Talent Show, attend the State of the School or parent speaker nights, or celebrate Grandparents and Grandfriends Day. There is something for everyone!
Parent Partnership
Our parents are committed to the school community, and are involved in many facets of St. Lucy School. Students love seeing and knowing that their parents and families are doing something special at school, and we thank our parents for completing this commitment to making St Lucy Parish School a strong community! Our parents regularly comment that they feel welcome on campus, and that their help is clearly valued by faculty and staff.
Volunteer Commitment
Each family is required to volunteer 40 hours per year (20 hours per single parent household) and 10 hours of volunteer service for Pre-Kindergarten families. Many families choose to go well over their requirement because they’re having fun! There is the feeling of “It takes a village” in the St. Lucy School community.
School Advisory Board
The purpose of the School Advisory Board shall be to work with the pastor and principal in establishing goals and defining policies which govern the operation of St. Lucy Parish School, within the guidelines provided by the Bishop of San José and Diocesan Department of Education. The Board functions as an advisory body to the principal on such topics as finance, capital improvements, safety, marketing and strategic planning. Members of the School Board serve a three year term.
Parent Teacher Group (PTG)
The Parent Teacher Group Board was formed to provide dedicated services to enrich the Catholic school lives of students, parents, teachers and school administrators. With parent help and participation, PTG fundraisers raise over $100,000 every year to significantly offset tuition costs. PTG focuses on three main areas to support the school:
- Enrichment Guest Speakers, Teacher Appreciation Lunch
- Fundraising Gift Wrap, Fun Fest, Community Dinners, Gym Signs, Walkathon, etc.
- Communication Kick Off Dinner, Uniform Exchange, Lenten Soup Dinner, Parish Hospitality
Booster Club
The primary function of the Booster Club is to raise funds for the athletic program by overseeing various fundraising events such as the Bocce Ball tournament, volleyball and basketball tournaments, pancake breakfasts and by selling uniform sweats. Monies raised are used to upgrade sports uniforms, replace sports and classroom equipment, and pay tournament fees. All students (not just those in the athletic program) benefit from the activities of the Booster Club.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is an advisory committee to the principal as a subcommittee of the School Advisory Board. The group focuses on high level analysis of financials in order to ensure that adequate funds are available to cover annual school expenses, provide insight and recommendations in response to unforeseen circumstances, provide assistance to the principal in developing the annual budget and tuition structure, provide expert advice regarding the funding of school program plans and projects determined by the principal, and support the principal’s communication with the school community regarding financial matters as needed.
The committee is chaired by a designated (appointed) member of the School Advisory Board, and membership includes volunteers who have been selected by the group based upon a background in finance, the ability to support the unique nature of the school as a Catholic nonprofit educational enterprise, a philosophical alignment with the principal coupled with a willingness to offer honest feedback and opinions, and an unimpeachable practice of confidentiality with regard to committee discussions.
Advancement Committee
The Advancement Committee is a sub committee of the School Advisory Board. It meets monthly and consists of a dedicated group of parent volunteers who specialize in marketing, public relations, graphic design, strategic planning, and writing. The Advancement Committee works with the Director of Advancement to help bring news about our school to others, maximize financial support for SLS, and promote the mission of the school through internal communication and external outreach. The Advancement Committee is also responsible for coordinating various activities throughout the year such as Open Houses, Welcome Coffee, and Community Appreciation Day.
Room Parents
The Room Parents work under the direction of their grade level teachers to support classroom activities such as field trips and special events, and to coordinate with the teacher to implement fundraising programs such as the class auction item for Fun Fest.
Scrip Committee
The Scrip Committee commits to raising funds for the school through the management of the Scrip Program. The profit earned through scrip is used to pay for school operating expenses and helps maintain a low tuition structure.
Alumni
St. Lucy School has a strong alumni community eager to remain connected. Every June we bid a bittersweet farewell to our most recent graduating class in a ceremony filled with laughter and tears. We are very proud of the Graduating class of 2019! May God bless them as they begin their high school journeys.

Annual Fun Fest Alumni Reception is OCTOBER 21, 2022 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Every October, alumni families come back to SLS to gather with friends and teachers during Fun Fest’s Alumni Reception on Friday night starting at 5:30pm. This event is for alumni, parents of alumni, and current/former faculty and staff. Every decade is represented, and the stories about the good ‘ole days are shared across the generations.
Class of 2019 High School Senior Send-Off Pizza Party: May 18, 2023 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Every May, we welcome parents, graduates, and teachers from the graduating high school class back to our campus as they prepare to graduate from high school and head to college. Both students and parents quickly reconnect with friends and faculty as they browse through old photos, enjoy dinner, and reminisce. We are proud of our graduates!
High School Alumni Give back to St. Lucy School
Our graduates often return to campus and volunteer their time through community service to help teachers and students. Many alums and parents of alums can also be found coaching many of our athletic sports teams.
Grandparents & Grandfriends
St. Lucy School students are blessed with a supportive grandparent and grandfriend community! Several of our grandparents are regular volunteers on campus.
We honor our grandparent community annually with our “Grandparents and Grandfriends Day” event. This special day for over 300 Grandparents and Grandfriends is traditionally held at school on the last Friday during January’s Catholic Schools Week. Guests are treated to a continental breakfast, a tour of the school given by their grandchildren or grandfriends, and a concluding mass. We appreciate all of the support that our Grandparents and Grandfriends give our students and our school!

Fun Fest is BACK!!! October 21-23
Fun Fest is the school’s largest fundraiser and community builder of the year! It is a three day carnival, auction, and alumni reunion held every October, which spans Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Rides, food booths, game booths, a live auction, silent auction, alumni reception, and live entertainment including a showcase of our student choir make it a fun way for families, friends, and businesses to come together as a community in support of St Lucy School. We couldn’t make it all happen without the dedication of our parent volunteers!

STREAM Celebration!
Each spring we come together to celebrate the achievements of our students and the warmth of our community. The Parent Teacher Group, Booster Club. STREAM Committee and School host the STREAM Celebration, which includes a spring social, complete with food trucks, a student art showcase, a Jr. High student presentation of their Science Fair projects. Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics hands-on activities are also offered by the Stream Committee. The students love it! Families come together in community to view the beautiful art, participate with their children in the STREAM activities and enjoy the amazing Science Fair projects. Food trucks, beverages, and desserts are available for all as we celebrate each other and our school.
